After finding a old book with some interior pages
cutout and a few childhood memories inside, I recall
the slip of the knife and almost losing a finger or
two, and my dad helping me cut the rest of the pages
from this old medical journal to create a secret
hiding place for my treasures. I remember my
excitement as I showed him each new treasure I found
and how the memories of those simple times poured back
into my heart. I remember each detail of when I found
my first hawk feather, the ink that covers its’ tip
when I tried making it into a writing quill, the small
paper where I scratched the date “1969,” a small
arrowhead my brother brought me home from college, a
piece of sea weathered glass I found at the Jersey
shore, and a gold medal I won at a championship swim
meet. These items are simple and personal, yet their
meaning and value to me is more than I could put into

wonderful memories from my childhood and I then
